More random photos. The kitchen one was the day we moved in. It looks a bit more pulled together than this now. These images were taken very quickly and I'll try to do better ones in day light for better effect. :)

Race to the Finish Line

Before

After

More tiling tomorrow and grout finished. All trim is up at this point. They are working on the front porch and trying to give us craftsman-style tapered columns. Monday they are sanding the floor one last time and applying varnish. The appliances come Monday am too. Can't believe it's wrapping up!

Long Awaited Updates

OK -- so this August has been a frenzy for me... out of town two weeks, preparing for Connor's start of middle school (yikes!), and details for the house. For some reason we cannot figure out why we have the camera setting on super saturated. The color of the home is off in these photos and I can't tweak it appropriately. The cabinetry is in, not reflected in this batch of photos, and the hardwoods will be stained tomorrow. The landscaping will happen Monday - Wednesday. The front porch will go in on Monday - Tuesday and will have white pickets and tapered craftsman columns. Also, stone will go in as an accent on the side of the house. BOY THE COLOR IS BOLD but it is actually a wonderful, rich green. I will repaint the gables because it was to be a khaki but we made a mistake. Should be easy to do and necessary to give it a bit more contrast. The front door will be stained a darkish mahogany and is lovely with wood dental work and leaded clear stained glass. The plumbing will be done on Wednesday. That leaves only Thursday for the builder to get this house passing appraisal for closing on Friday. We are assured it will close on Friday but we may have to wait to move until Monday as we will need one last coat of sealer on the hardwoods. Keep your fingers crossed! The other photos are soon to be neighbors. :)

Shingle shingle come to mingle

The black shingles are up and the first of the trim work is nailed in. Windows are framed and installed. I am having mild panic that we've chosen the wrong colors and exterior finishes. Breathe!

A roof over our heads

I've slacked on my blog good-ery so I must back the train up and post the finished framing that happened less than two weeks ago. We've been busy finding some nice counter height stools for the built in island in the kitchen -- still not finalized, a chunky jute woven rug, and some other odds and ends. I need to win the lotto!

Colors. Colors.

The exterior color selection is Basil - third row second from the bottom (click for larger image) - for the main house color. We will paint the gables above the garage and the front of the house two shades lighter. The trim, porch railing, and craftsman style post will be a nearly white color called Snow Bound ;)

Two car garage

... driveway is poured to our garage. Now we will have to get a garage door opener -- NOT provided by the builder!

More progress

Facing South-East. This is Joe, Rachel's husband, and soon to be neighbor. Walter and Joe are devising a way to use Connor's old remote control cars as a way to shuttle icy beers across the cul de sac.

A room with a view

The view from our french doors in the kitchen. Soon there will be a nice sized deck. Cocktails anyone?

Cover it up

This is our day-basement and the views from the windows are amazing.

Leaving his mark

Connor is carving C.W. into the concrete. He's very excited even if he's playing cool.

We've got wood!

The basement walls are framed, and the rafters are being laid out. These guys work fast!

Pour it on!

Day basement walls are finished. We are now waiting the lumber package to arrive so they can begin framing. We meet this week with the builder to choose exterior finishes and colors. Yay!

Hole in the Ground

Scary tree gone. Dirt moved. Hole dug. Let's get started!

Dirt Pile

And so it begins -- with a mini-mountain of dirt. Things should get moving soon (next week?). Let's see if they make the Sept. 1 move in date. The builder will remove the Poltergeist-esque dead tree from the back yard -- "this house is clean..."
